REVIEWING THE REVIEWED MOTION PICTURES OF AN AUDIO KIND

This is what Hip-Hop is all about: serving as a progressive outlet for promoting social change. Ilana Weaver aka Invincible spits some wicked lyrics that not only have substance but swagga. What makes this even better is that this song is about the positive movement through the arts that is occurring in communities throughout the country including Detroit. I encourage you to Google Detroit Summer and find out about what positive changes are occurring in the city.

7.1 out of 7 hamburgers. A little extra yum!

Subliminal messaging is so 1995. This video from Stepdad revisits the time when Windows 97 operated like a battery run Power Wheel. In case anyone is wondering, yes, it is entirely necessary to display the RAM diagnostics window of an old as dirt operating system from the nineties throughout much of the video. Keep your shades on while you witness a drop of Lauren Hill in this hyper-sensitized music video. My Leather, My Fur, My Nails keeps over the edge silliness in style. Yay for step dads!

3.14 out of 7 hamburgers. That means I liked it a lot! So yummy!!!!

Judging by the name Coyote Clean-Up one can easily draw comparisons to Coyote Ugly…maybe not! There is no comparison. One is excruciatingly bad, or so I have heard, and the other requires your mother to tell you to come eat your dinner for the “umpteenth time” just so you can be pulled away from listening to it. You can guess which is which.

7, yes 7, out of 7 hamburgers. Yummy Perfection Confection Selection!

As you take time to watch this video realize that it took 4 katillion times longer for the video to be made. Paul Zito has employed his patience in creating this stop-motion video and it reflects the same patience that Jon Zott utilizes to create his music. As a one man band operating on the electronic technology your grandmother didn’t make but should have, Zott compiles musical bliss upon musical bliss to get the end result which is Fever. This guy does it all by himself. “Does what?” you might ask. Well, let your dirty mind fill in the blank. One of the best local electronic talents!

Seven and Three Quarters out of 7 hamburgers. Yippy Yum!

Seriously, these guys are from Detroit? I guess we can call them an “instant classic” seeing as how fast they burst onto to the har mar superstar local scene. They are two deceptively small individuals that bring big sound both in their recordings and on stage. The natural nature of mother nature seeps into the soundscape they thump, bend and weave in Empty Houses. This well put together video reflects the focus and energy they capture in their music. So, that being said, put away a couple of bucks and go spend it on something nice for yourself. You deserve it.

6.8 out of 7 hamburgers. Yyyyyyyuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmm!

Have you ever eaten uncooked spaghetti noodles whilst wearing a tin-foil vest while you were walking on a bed of Better Made Barbecue chips? Well, assuming you have, seeing this band live is quite similar. Don’t pay attention to this music video. It will not do this band justice. Yes, the lights and lyrically maimed format are pretty neat, but don’t let that keep you from being in the same room as the members of this band while they perform on their musical instruments. Bars of Gold routinely put on a great live show that will have you wondering how to dance to something only a bear could musically create.

6 1/8 out of 7 Hamburgers. Everyone gets a piece of the pie, Yum!

Um, low budget? This room is low budget. Your dog is low budget. In viewing this music video you get the essence of what Gardens is all about. Little concentration on the particulars, musical fine tuneness and alike. Their niche in the local indie scene provides them with the space to explore their unkempt yet danceable, toe tapper, head bopper garage rock sound. Staring at a Line is Not Always Fine delivers the product you would expect from a garden: something that is green, raw and in need of washing. Gardens are my second favorite local band. Please do check them out!

6.2 out of 7 Hamburgers. It’s a Yummy!

So, we might have seen the plot to this video played out in millions of movies, dreams and Tyrannosaurus Rex puzzles before, but we can’t help “having a good time”. This local fab trio knows how to play around in the musty mildew of the shadowy effervescent dive bar for over 40’s. We couldn’t interpret this music video any other way. One could find themselves noticeably immersed in this video feeling that relentless need that one gets on a drunken Tuesday evening at the corner biker bar only to find one’s own hand clutching a cracked bottle that will soon become acquainted with another’s facial tissue… But see, here’s the thing. We’ve seen this all before. It seems we are at a loss for that affect we sought viewing this scenario the first time. None the less Lightning Love keep it striking and keep it sexy!

6 out of 7 hamburgers. Yum!
